“And Now…”
Welcome to Homecoming 2024, and the 55th edition of the WVU Alumni Band! This season promises to be one of the most significant moments in the history of the Alumni Band as we honor the legacy of Don Wilcox on and off the field. YOU play a critical role in making this celebration of life and dedicated performances successful. Even if you never marched or played under Mr. Wilcox, you no doubt understand the impact that his vision and work over 34 years at WVU made on the iteration of The Pride in which you marched. I am personally encouraging you to plan to be at Homecoming this year and join us… if you haven’t played or marched in years, now is the time to dust off that horn, drum, flag, or baton and participate in something much greater than yourself, once again. I’ll see you October 18 and 19 in Morgantown!
We provided a picnic for The Pride during band camp this year as well as a small stipend for each band member to use for another meal or two during the week. Thanks to the generosity of our members, who always come through to provide for the current band members! Efforts to fundraise for the Macy’s trip are ongoing, and we encourage you to give as able toward this prestigious and exciting opportunity for the students. More fundraising opportunities are in the works.
The culture of our organization presently spans more than 65 years of memories and tradition. We are very lucky to have this wide range of experience, and as we continue to grow and evolve as an organization, my hope is that we can bond in the shared and different experiences: always with a love for the WVU Band. That is the core of our existence, and we must not lose sight of that love, no matter the disagreements or controversy of the day. Each one of us occupied a dot, and every member is important to our past, present, and future as the WVU Alumni Band. Every Note. Every Step. Every Person. Every Time.
As always, please do not hesitate to personally reach out to me with questions or to share a band memory: I serve you!
“So Hail to West Virginia, Hail!”
